The Position

Basic Function

Summary

The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading and building the strategic plan for Truckload / Intermodal modes.  This position provides leadership and project management throughout the combined Bellisio shipping network, as well as implements change and is responsible for carrier management and network rationalization. This position will work closely with the Traffic Department improving carrier management and driving increased route compliance and savings. This position is responsible for building metrics and reporting industry trends to upper management. This position will focus on network modeling, improved technology and take truckload management to the next level at Bellisio. The individual must possess strong negotiations and procurement skills. 

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies that reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) by 3% annually
  • Responsible for project implementation during change management
  • Benchmark each location for carrier utilization and mix to become more productive and profitable
  • Manage relationship between Bellisio and transportation carriers, building a true TL carrier program at Bellisio
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and report out opportunities during weekly staff meetings
  • Implement a new fuel strategy improving transparency to all actual fuel costs
  • Manage service and cost effective route guide for load tender team
  • Manage monthly cost / service / savings by locations
  • Infuse continuous moves where possible into routes to offset Bellisio freight costs
  • Responsible for reporting truckload carrier metrics to management (service / delivery performance, carrier management)
  • Strategic planning and presentation to Director of Logistics
  • Develop performance based contracts for carriers and perform annual RFPs that will ensure we beat market rates
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of service and capacity commitments by lane serviced
  • Provide a proposal at least annually ith new technology opportunities by carrier
  • Develop a new carrier onboarding process that incorporates capacity, cost and flexibility that can be measured
  • Develop a list of key indicators from carriers that would make Bellisio a more carrier friendly choice
  • Provide detailed analysis on where it makes sense to use brokerage vs. asset based carriers
  • Conduct modal analysis at Jackson plant, implementing cost savings programs
  • Optimize payload and backhaul opportunities at all sites
  • Responsible for the negotiations of all carrier contracts
  • Responsible for all carrier administration including updated contracts, accessorial and rate addendums, and insurance
  • Provide statistical analysis for all carrier service performance metrics
  • Hold quarterly carrier review meetings with top ten spend carriers
  • Communicate and advise the plants during the budget process
  • Travel when necessary to accomplish assigned responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

The Candidate

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent education and experience.  Logistics major preferred.

Professional Experience

  • 5+years’ experience in transportation area, preferably in TL or LTL modes and methodologies
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, word-processing and database management
  • Strong prioritization, planning and reporting skills
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing environment and multi modal effectiveness
