As a family-owned, family-focused food company, we are dedicated to bringing our customers great food at a great price. We are able to do this in part because we work hard to not be wasteful. We pay attention to the details of how we package our food, the power we use, and the waste we generate. While these efforts help the environment, we believe they are also simply the right way to treat our customers and the communities that are home to our plants and employees.

While we are continuously striving to improve, we are proud of our results so far.  Our dedicated team of employees continues to look for every opportunity to drive further innovation.  Here are a few examples of what we are up to:

Eco-Friendly Packaging
The packaging for our most broadly distributed products uses less plastic and petroleum than virtually all other frozen entrees on the market. In addition, it is sized in a way that allows us to transport more meals on a shipping pallet, thus saving on fuel getting it to your grocery store.

Water Conservation
We make lots of pasta.  Imagine how much water you boil for one pot of pasta; then consider we make about 2 million pasta meals a day. We have implemented new technologies that reduce our water consumption by 6 million gallons of water every year!

Innovation & Organic Waste
When you make a meal there are scraps of food that need to be disposed. We decided that instead of shipping that waste to a landfill, we could capture it and use it to create power. We built our first digester in 2004 and are building our second. The combined capacity will generate enough methane to power two boilers in the plant and completely eliminate shipping organic waste to landfills.

This project was recognized by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in the 2008 Innovations Review: Making Green the New Business as Usual; EDF’s inaugural report highlighting the latest trends and best practices for generating environmental and business benefits.

Our efforts toward sustainability are ongoing, and have been since we made our first meal.  We appreciate that you are concerned enough to take time to read about our work.
