The inspiration for Bellisio Foods stems back to our founder, Jeno Paulucci, and his parents – Italian immigrants in the early 1900's to the Iron Range of Minnesota. When the Paulucci’s traveled to America they brought their love of food, cooking, and their Italian heritage with them.
Jeno’s father went to work as a miner and his mother, Michelina, opened up her kitchen to the growing town. Michelina’s belief that food could be beautiful, combined with the diverse cultures that surrounded her table each day, allowed for a creative melting pot for delicious and hearty home-cooked meals that everyone could enjoy – forever instilling in Jeno the desire to create great food.
What’s in a Name
Our name, Bellisio, is two-fold in its meaning: Bellisio speaks to our roots in tribute to the Palucci’s home town of Bellisio Solfare, the Italian town from which they emigrated. In addition, Bellisio, an Italian word, translates into English as “beautiful” – this has led our belief of what food and eating food should be about.
